Tamara Fulwyler,
an enrolled and voting member of the Chickasaw Tribe, started at
SPIPA in November, 2004. She is our Senior Grant
Writer.
Tamara says, “My
great-grandfather’s
people were the Choctaw. Some members of my family have followed
the Choctaw path, while others align with the Chickasaws.”
She received her
Liberal Arts undergraduate degree from Eastern Oregon University
in 1995 with a dual major: one in business administration and one
in geology, along with a minor in Spanish.
"I
changed the focus of my professional goals and started graduate school.
I am enrolled at Walden University working on a Masters
of Public Health, community focus.” The shift was caused by her belief
that “.
. . access to good health, liberal education, and affordable housing
are primary to being happy and successful in life. I also think all people
are born
with
the potential to be productive and live meaningful lives.
Tamara’s
says, “I have worked in community-based non-profits
for about 10 years, providing executive-level leadership to build capacity
through
developing fiscal and administrative infrastructure.” She
adds, “My most recent post was as the Executive Director of a victims
services agency supervising five programs: a shelter for battered women
and their children, a crisis advocacy team, a sexual assault response
team, a court & community
advocacy team, and a thrift store. I also have done consulting work for
a variety of clients, including TTAC, a training unit of the Office of
Victims of Crime
at the U.S. Department of Justice.”
