The 5TCC,
now located at 3104 SE Old Olympic Highway, Shelton, Washington,
epitomizes the commitment each of the five tribes (and the Agency)
has toward
education.
The Center
includes staff offices for Vocational Rehabilitation; General
Assistance; the
Childcare
Program
Administrator; the SPIPA Intertribal TANF staff serving Kitsap,
Mason and Thurston Counties; and the Education Director.
Each student
can receive educational counseling. This
counseling helps students meet both long- and short-term educational
goals
– ranging from completing GEDs to increasing their skill
levels in a number of areas (from math to language and much more)
with a long-range goal of enrolling in college and completing
an appropriate
degree
program.
Education and
training plans can be developed by the tribal case manager, the
SPIPA job counselor, and the client. This allows clients to customize
their training in many ways.
Students may
attend a local community college or combine on-site training at
5TCC with community college courses. Other options allow clients
who qualify to enter on-the-job training at tribal, or non-tribal,
enterprises.
The education
resource center includes a computer lab, counseling and assessment
offices, and classrooms. The center recently updated
their
computers and software so students can keep current
with some of the latest computer technology.
Native
Employment Works (NEW)
NEW provides work
activities to tribal members living in designated service areas. Each
tribe establishes a priority system for serving their tribal population.
For more information about NEW contact your tribal center.
Childcare
Services
The tribes utilize funds
to provide direct childcare services to eligible families. To find
out about eligibility, or for more information, please call your tribal
center.
